EarthCARE/CPR Project Member Blog

2024.5.17 (Field Report)

With the launch fast approaching, JAXA members who will be handling the launch on the day have begun their stay at the Vandenberg launch site in the United States.
In keeping with the CPR's cloud observation activities, we all wore pure white team uniforms, which created a sense of unity and put us on a high level of morale!

Work to load the EarthCARE satellite onto the rocket began this week.
Preparations for the launch are progressing steadily, including the installation of the satellite onto the adapter that connects the satellite to the rocket.
The EarthCARE satellite, which we were reunited with up close, was pure white and truly beautiful, and the day when it will soar into space just like Hakuryu is approaching.

We also had a dress rehearsal today.
A dress rehearsal is a kind of run-through in which the crew wears the exact costumes they will wear for the actual launch. A rehearsal was conducted simulating the day of the satellite launch, connecting the satellite to ESOC (European Space Operations Centre) in Germany, which will actually operate the satellite, and a launch site in the United States.
We, the JAXA members, participated in the event in the same positions as on the actual launch day, which made the flow of the day and the allocation of roles clear, and we were perfectly prepared!
