Introducing EarthCARE/CPR project members

Kazuyuki Okada

Sub-Manager

Veteran Jack of All Trades

Job description

I am in charge of the sub-management. The job of a sub-manager is to be responsible for the entire project, just like the project manager, but to support the project manager while working closer to the team members. In other words, the project manager sets out the overall policy, the sub-manager considers how to implement it, and the team members actually carry out the work. If I let my guard down even for a moment, my mind quickly becomes saturated with information, but I have a project manager who organizes the situation and shows me the direction, and team members who are experienced and capable of executing, so I work hard every day trying to somehow fulfill my responsibilities.

Thoughts on EarthCARE/CPR

The EarthCARE/CPR project is one that I have been involved in since my first year at JAXA, and we have been involved for about 20 years, including the period of consideration before it was launched as a project. CPR has been with us through hard times and good times. It may be a similar feeling to when an adult child leaves our care, but I feel a deep emotion in knowing that the time has finally come for EarthCARE/CPR to become an independent and play an active role in space. After a long period of development, we look forward to the satellite producing observational results that will be useful to society during its upcoming operational period.
