Dr. Kubota of JAXA/EORC got the Best Paper Award of Hydraulic Engineering, Hydraulic Committee, JSCE in 2024

Dr. Takuji Kubota, Senior Researcher of JAXA/EORC, got the Best Paper Award of Hydraulic Engineering, Hydraulic Committee, Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE) in 2024, by a paper titled as “Improvement of the method to derive rain rates from rain gauge observations: A validation study using a disdrometer”. On December 2, 2024, an award ceremony took place at the 69th Conference on Hydraulic Engineering held at the Toyama Kenmin Kaikan, followed by an invited presentation given by Associate Professor Shinta Seto from Nagasaki University, the lead author of the paper.

Award Ceremony (2nd December 2024 @ Toyama Kenmin Kaikan)

The method described in this paper is expected to enable more accurate validation of rain rates observed by the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) and rain-related satellite missions.
