Flood in Pakistan
JAXA conducted emergency observation by Advanced Land Observing Satellite-2 “ALOS-2” on the flood in Pakistan and provided observed data upon request from Sentinel Asia on August 18, 2022.
The results of analysis by the Asian Institute of Technology and Nanyang Technological University – Earth Observatory of Singapore were provided to the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan to monitor the impact of the flood.
The observed data by ALOS-2 was provided through the Sentinel Asia initiative, an international collaboration among space agencies, disaster management agencies, and international agencies for applying remote sensing and Web-GIS technologies to support disaster management in the Asia-Pacific region.

The detected flood water maps provided by the Asian Institute of Technology. These maps show the detected flood water areas due to heavy downpour and flash floods. The maps are derived from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images acquired by ALOS-2. The blue color indicates the detected flood water.
The Flood Proxy Map provided by Nanyang Technological University-Earth Observatory of Singapore.
The map depicts areas that are likely flooded in Pakistan due to heavy monsoon rains. The map is derived from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images acquired by ALOS-2. The pale blue color indicates likely flooded areas.
By overlaying the above flood detected areas and maps, the below URL enables zoom in or out of flood detected areas.
JAXA provided the analyzed data obtained through Sentinel Asia to the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Bank (WB) as well as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
